Specialisation Description

Bachelor's study programme Czech Studies is intended for those interested in studying the Czech language, history of literature and literary theory. Its disciplines are oriented to Czech literary history conceived in the context of European literature and culture, as well as literary theoretical disciplines reflecting the latest aspects of the discipline and linguistic disciplines focused mainly on synchronic linguistics. Specialisation disciplines are complimented by philosophical or aesthetic disciplines and culture of spoken and written communication. Individual courses within the curriculum allow the students to profile themselves towards the linguistic or literary-historical field leading to higher profiling in the workplace or in subsequent studies in consecutive Master's programmes.

Graduate profile

Graduates are comprehensively educated in Czech literary history in the context of European cultural and literary events. They apply their literary theoretical knowledge to interpretation of artistic texts and perceive them as a representation of contemporary events and thinking. Linguistic knowledge focused primarily on synchronic linguistics extends from theoretical level to practical development of communication and stylistic competencies in both spoken and written form.

Graduates are equipped to practically apply the acquired knowledge and skills in various cultural institutions, in the media or in positions of experts dealing with cultural heritage or public relations. Bachelor's graduates are also ready for further education in Master's programmes. In consecutive Master's programmes, they can deepen their expertise in both teaching and non-teaching specialisations.
